40 YEARS OF INDUSTRIAL ADVENTURE
Our historic dermo-cosmetic factory, Soual (Tarn) is the largest industrial site of Pierre Fabre Laboratories, in terms of production volume and number of employees. For more than 40 years, it has ensured the manufacture and packaging of dermo-cosmetic products (creams, liquids, milks, lotions, soaps, sticks, etc.) on the Ducray, A-Derma, René Furterer, Klorane, Galénic and Elancyl brands. The site encomposes 35 packaging lines and 15 platforms for the making of liquids and emulsions.
The site recently expanded in order to respond to the many challenges forced by our dermo-cosmetic business:
- To anticipate dermo-cosmetic changes and in particular to respond to the changing demands of the market in the formulation area, such as the suppression of parabens and the reduction of preservatives;
- To acquire new knowledge for the production of sterile products without preservatives;
- To accompany with the fast-growing international development of our dermo-cosmetic activity;
- To develop our industrial organization on the principle of autonomous production units.
The expansion of the Soual site saw the implementation of an experimental HQE (High-Quality Environment) approach: a project management approach that aims to optimize the environmental quality of a construction or rehabilitation operation.
- 1969: Construction of the factory at Soual (18,000 m²)
- 1974: Transfer of logistical activity to the distribution center at Muret (near Toulouse)
- 1989: Expansion of the main workshop (1,500 m²)
- 1990: Opening of a workshop for packaging items at Bagatelle (Castres) near the factory
- 1995: Site specialization in cosmetic products
- 1996: Transfer of the manufacturing of soaps and dermatological blocks to a workshop located at Mazamet (Tarn)
- 2010: Start of extension work (13,500 m²)
- 2012: Start of production in the extension
98% of waste recycled
Soual combines respect for and protection of the environment into its industrial approach. For several years, the site has been working on the complete overhaul of its waste management procedures. Today, it recycles 98% of its waste. Important work on managing elimination procedures has led to the replacement of outdated compactors with presses to make 500 kg cardboard bales and 300 kg plastic bales. The cardboard is then taken directly for recycling by cardboard specialists, which makes it possible to reduce transport by 42% (number of round trips).
Regarding the disposal of effluents, the Soual site has a purification center with membrane filtration, with an efficiency rate of over 98%.
Finally, in terms of energy, the site now has a biomass heater which will eventually enable it to use 80% renewable energy.
