Pierre Fabre makes its CSR policy grow with AFAQ 26000 obtaining the Exemplary level

Pierre Fabre and AFNOR Certification announce that the pharmaceutical and dermo-cosmetics laboratory has just obtained the highest level in the AFAQ 26000 assessment conducted in the 2nd half of 2015 by independent auditors from AFNOR Certification. Pierre Fabre obtained a score of 805 out of the 1,000 points available in the assessment table.

Pierre Fabre has been committed to a voluntary approach to assess its CSR policy for three years. The company was assessed for the first time in 2012 and was rated as "Confirmed" (score: 624). Pierre Fabre has now become the first company with over 10,000 employees to access the very exclusive club of AFAQ 26000-assessed companies to be rated as "Exemplary". 

AFAQ 26000 is a voluntary assessment measure developed by AFNOR Certification for organizations to evaluate their level of maturity in terms of corporate social responsibility. AFAQ 26000 is based on international standard ISO 26000, the first and only international standard on CSR.

In their report, the AFNOR Certification assessors firstly highlighted the strong points in Pierre Fabre's CSR policy identified in 2012 and confirmed in 2015: 

  • An original way of organizing the company capital, associating a recognized public-interest foundation and a particularly well-developed employee share ownership;
  • A portfolio of responsible brands;
  • Remarkable eco-design initiatives;
  • Protection of biodiversity, in particular via action taken by the Klorane Institute and an innovative approach
    to the responsible development of plant-based active ingredients (Botanical Expertise Pierre Fabre);
  • The economic, social and environmental development of our local communities, whether in the south-west of France or abroad, such as in Madagascar.

The assessors then mentioned the points where Pierre Fabre had made significant improvements between 2012 and 2015:

  • The closer connection between the CSR and business strategies; 
  • A deeper understanding and better consideration of the key issues faced by the company's stakeholders;
  • Enhanced overall management of the CSR corporate policy. 

Lastly, in terms of areas for improvement, the assessors have highlighted the following opportunities:

  • A more consistent, systemic CSR approach at international level; 
  • Improved assessment processes on CSR issues for suppliers and partners; 
  • An enhanced occupational health and safety policy internationally.

In the conclusion of its report, AFNOR Certification summarized the CSR approach of the Pierre Fabre Group as follows: The level of maturity reached by Pierre Fabre is the fruit of the values inspired by its founder and the approach he fostered since the company's creation. This policy has been pursued by its new leaders. It is based on the conviction that development must be sustainable, combining a long-term vision with having to respond to the immediate economic requirements inherent in running any business. Hailed by its stakeholders, Pierre Fabre Laboratories, an international company on a human scale, continues to cultivate its specificity: a local presence, botanical expertise, a culture of excellence, and innovation and human development – all key success factors.

In reaction to this AFAQ 26000 assessment, Bertrand Parmentier, Group CEO at Pierre Fabre Laboratories, stated: This result objectively demonstrates the maturity and performance of our corporate social responsibility policy which is implemented by our 11,000 employees on a daily basis. We are thus guaranteeing the sustainability of this corporate citizen approach, which has always characterized the company entrusted to us by Mr. Pierre Fabre, through the public-interest Foundation bearing his name, which is our main shareholder. We are now going to create our CSR roadmap for the next three years so that we continue to deserve this level of exemplarity and progress in the areas for improvement highlighted by AFNOR Certification.
