Pierre Fabre Laboratories participate in the National Biodiversity Conference

July 3, 2014

The National Biodiversity Conference (Assises Nationales de la Biodiversité), organized under the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, was held for the fourth time in Montpellier, France from June 23rd to 25th.

A national event promoting awareness, discussion and debate about biodiversity, the fourth National Biodiversity Conference brought together over 700 representatives of local authorities, environmental and botanical associations, Natural Parks and private companies.

Pierre Fabre Laboratories, alongside OREE and Patte Blanche took part in the round table on "How to integrate nature into companies’ CSR policies?" The Group presented the consideration of biodiversity in its strategy, notably with its Botanical Expertise Pierre Fabre initiative, and shared its work on sustainable management in the flax supply chain (a plant extract used in the Klorane brand hair care product ranges).

The 80 round table participants showed a real interest in the actions implemented by Pierre Fabre in the production of flax and its plant extract, partnerships in R&D with the industries collecting the plants, focusing on reducing the use of pesticides, and structured around indicators integrating respect for biodiversity. In Hérault, the consideration of environmental issues in industrial processes at the Avène plant and for the Avène brand (biodiversity inventory, an experimental High Environmental Quality approach, saving energy, commitment to eco-design in packaging, lifecycle analyses, etc.) also illustrated the Group’s firm local roots and its respect for the environment. These are all examples and actions which demonstrate how the Group's expertise and knowledge about natural resources can create value for both the company and its stakeholders.
