The Castres Olympique stadium is renamed Pierre Fabre,
after the founder of the international Group based in Castres and in commemoration of its unwavering support for the Tarn-based rugby club over the last 30 years.
Castres, September 8, 2017 - The rugby stadium in Castres, which is owned by the town, is being renamed after Pierre Fabre, on Saturday, September 9. The naming ceremony will take place at 6pm before the French Top 14 rugby match, which will see Castres Olympique playing against Montpellier Hérault Rugby. The match will be preceded by an event dedicated to the memory of the Tarn entrepreneur.
Over the last 30 years, the unwavering support of Pierre Fabre and his Group has allowed Castres Olympique to maintain its position among the French rugby elite without interruption. The Tarn club has twice won the Champion de France title (1993, 2013) and has taken part in the European Rugby Champions Cup more than 15 times since 1990.
The ceremony will also be the opportunity to inaugurate the new Francis Rui stand, named in honor of the captain of the Castres team who won the French championships in 1993. The complete renovation of the stand has increased its capacity by 1,300 additional places, taking the stadium’s total capacity to 12,300, including 10,144 seats, as well as the redevelopment of reception areas, dressing rooms, the infirmary and the press area. The project was led by the town of Castres, owner of the stadium, and jointly financed by the town itself, the conurbation of Castres-Mazamet, the Tarn area, the Occitanie region and the French State. As a result of the work, the stadium will shortly granted French National League of Rugby approval.
Talking about this ceremony, Pierre-Yves Revol, president of the Castres Olympique club, said: Our club is proud to be able to play in these renovated grounds which now bear the name of a man without whom the club would have been unable to reach and maintain its current level. A pharmacist, exceptional entrepreneur and a passionate rugby fan, Pierre Fabre has left his mark on the town of Castres and participated in its glory, and that of the surrounding region, in a way that few before him managed to do.
Pascal Bugis, mayor of Castres and president of the conurbation of Castres-Mazamet, stated: “For several decades, the commitment, action and support of Pierre Fabre and his Group have made it possible to promote the name of the Pierre-Antoine stadium in rugby across France and Europe. That these grounds now bear this benefactor’s name, at the wish of the Castres Olympique Rugby Club, is symbolic of deserved recognition and gratitude.
