After 50 being a man also means talking about your health
Men's Health Month
As they get older, men's risk of facing certain health challenges increases: Cardiovascular diseases, urinary problems, diabetes, cancer, depression... The onset of symptoms may appear to be silent and even if they become more frequent, they may not seem significant. That's why, to mark Men's Health Month, we're launching an awareness campaign aimed at encouraging men over 50 to take care of their health. Did you know? In somes countries (ex: in France), hypertension (high blood pressure) is more common in men than in women over the age of 50.  25% of French people aged 45 to 54 have hypertension, and about 50% are diagnosed (1). The prevalence of type 2 diabetes increases with age and is higher in men than in women of the same age group. In French men aged 45-54, the number of cases is multiplied by a factor of 16 (2).. The probability of having a stroke increases markedly after age 50 in men.Of the 120,000 myocardial infarctions (heart attacks) detected each year, 1/3 occur in people under 60 (3).. Cholesterol :  45% of French men aged 45-54 present an increase in bad LDL cholesterol levels (4). Colorectal cancer: 85-90% of colon cancers occur after age 50, with 610,000 men affected worldwide each year(11). Only 35.4% (in 2021-2022) of French people aged 50 to 74 underwent the recommended screenings (9)...   5 essential screenings for men over 50 for early diagnosis 1.    Colorectal cancer: search for blood in the stools (screening test, +/-coloscopy). 2.    Prostate cancer: digital rectal examination, PSA dosage (Prostate Specific Antigen)  3.   Type 2 diabetes: blood test 4.    High cholesterol: blood test 5.    Skin cancer: dermatological examination   After the age of 50, more than half of all men suffer from urinary problems  The frequent and urgent need to urinate, delayed drops, frequent night-time trips to the toilet, loss of libido, urinary incontinence... Most of these "private" problems are common among men, especially after the age of 50. Did you know? 1 in 2 men over 50 suffer from urinary problems that may be linked to Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (5). 25% of men over 50 suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED) (6). 10-12% of men suffer from Overactive Bladder (OAB) after age 50 (7).. Over 71,000 men over the age of 50 develop prostate cancer every year, with an average of 9,000 prostate cancer deaths per year (8). Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia In men of a certain age, urinary disorders are very often linked to what is known as "prostate enlargement" or "Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia" (BPH). The prostate is a chestnut-sized gland located under the bladder, in front of the rectum. It surrounds the upper part of the urethra, the urinary canal that exits the bladder and allows the passage of urine and semen.
Selina Jansky
A Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Leading the Evolution of Healthcare Practices in Germany.
The script of the video.   •    Could you please introduce yourself? Hi, my name is Selina Jansky. I’m 31 years old and I live and work in Germany. I joined Pierre Fabre as an MSL about 1,5 years ago. •    What is your professional background before being an MSL?  I’m a molecular biologist by training and before starting as an MSL, I worked at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, for my PhD and Postdoc. •    How would you define the MSL role? MSL is the direct link between pharmaceutical companies and healthcare professionals. And he contributes to this exchange by discussing current scientific and clinical data, but also by collecting insights from daily clinical practice. •    What do you like about being an MSL? I really like about being an MSL, that I’m able to use my scientific background and stay up to date through latest scientific advancements. But also at the same time, I can contribute to patient care by helping healthcare professionals to make informed decisions about treatment options. •    What is the most difficult thing for you about being an MSL? HCPs are very busy and therefore, especially at the beginning, it can sometimes be difficult to get appointments and be able to talk to physicians. •    What is the essential quality of an MSL for you? I think for an MSL that it is essential to be an excellent communicator and especially to adapt communication to different audiences. •    What motivates you to get up in the morning as an MSL? What really motivates me in the morning, is that every day is really different. The job has a lot of variety and you get to meet many different people. •    What is your most beautiful emotion experienced as an MSL? It always makes me really happy to hear success stories from physicians who talk about patients who benefited from new therapies. •    Any words or advice for someone wanting to become an MSL? My advice would be for someone interested in becoming an MSL to talk to someone who is already experienced as an MSL as he ca give more detailed insights into the daily work and responsibilities.     Know more about MSL

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women1, with more than 2.2 million new cases reported each year worldwide.2  It accounts for 1 in 4 annual cancer cases globally.1 Breast cancer is the leading cause of death by cancer in women.2   Although more frequent after age 50, breast cancer can also occur in younger patients.1 An estimated 20% of breast cancer cases in Europe occur in women when they are younger than 50 years old.1 Also, even though most breast cancer cases occur in women, it can also occur in men (around 1% of cases).3  Importance of early detection  Early detection is key. Detecting cancer at an early stage significantly improves the prospects for treatment success. Being aware of your breasts' usual appearance and feel is important, and you should immediately inform your healthcare provider of any alterations. The most common symptoms of breast cancer are changes in the breasts, the lump in the breast being the most common, but not the only one.3  The following signs that should alert women and men:3  A lump in the breast  Change in the size or shape of the breast  Dimpling of the skin or thickening in the breast tissue  An inverted nipple  Rash on the nipple  Discharge from the nipple  Swelling or a lump in the armpit  Pain or discomfort in the breast that doesn’t go away  Skin redness  Skin thickening  In most cases, breast cancer is asymptomatic. Getting regular screening tests is the most reliable way to detect breast cancer early. Check with your doctor if you are eligible and get information about screening frequency. 4,5         How to do self-examination?4
