Urology: 40 years of expertise and commitment
6 July 2026
As its latest treatment for overactive bladder goes to market in Europe, Laboratoires Pierre Fabre marks 40 years of commitment to treating urinary disorders. Striking a perfect balance between long-standing therapeutic solutions and innovation, the laboratory’s ongoing ambition is clear: to improve quality of life for patients, alongside healthcare professionals.
In 1982, Laboratoires Pierre Fabre made its first foray into urology, launching a treatment for moderate urinary disorders associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia. More than forty years later, that ground-breaking drug - marketed in 31 countries - remains a cornerstone of our brand portfolio. Still widely used in clinical practice, it illustrates the ongoing relationship of trust built up over several decades with urologists and general practitioners.
A major new step
In 2024, Laboratoires Pierre Fabre enriched its offer with a treatment for overactive bladder in adults. Overactive bladder is a disorder that affects about 14% of people in France*, manifesting as sudden, hard-to-control urges to urinate, both during the day and at night, with or without urinary incontinence. This therapeutic option is Pierre Fabre’s concrete solution to an insufficiently met medical need which has significant impacts on the social, professional, and emotional lives of patients.
2025, accelerating momentum
Just one year after it was introduced in three European countries, the treatment was rolled out in eight new countries in Europe in 2025. That expansion went hand in hand with an even greater commitment to supporting the global urological community. In 2025, Pierre Fabre attended all the major congresses: the European Association of Urology (EAU), the European Urogynaecological Association (EUGA), and the Société Internationale d’Urologie (SIU). These events provided valuable opportunities to engage with experts, and contribute to scientific progress. In parallel, the Group conducted three market studies to gain better insight into prescription habits and brand positioning with regard to the treatment of overactive bladder.
A comprehensive view of urology, for the benefit of patients
With two treatments covering major urinary disorders in adults, Pierre Fabre confirms its key role in the field of urology. Since the lower urinary tract forms an interconnected system, and urological conditions never occur in isolation, the Group is committed to bringing together the entire urological ecosystem by supporting personalized management, promoting interaction and knowledge-sharing among healthcare professionals, and empowering patients to play a proactive role in their care pathway.
